Shops, Markets

Pourville-sur-mer and the Dieppe regionaround Villa Quartz

Shops, Markets

There are a few shops in Pourville (grocery store, bakery), but for a more comprehensive shopping experience and a wider selection, you'll need to travel to Varengeville, Dieppe, or Offranville. In this guide, we've compiled a list of the main shops in our area that we'd like to recommend. These are the ones where we shop ourselves, and we're happy with them. On this page, you'll also find a list of the main markets in the region, including the one in Dieppe, which was recently voted "France's most beautiful market"!

Grocery stores

Closest to Villa Quartz, you'll find the "Aux Saveurs de Pourville" grocery store on Pourville beach, and a small Coccimarket in the center of Varengeville-sur-Mer. The selection is limited, but the products are high quality. A little further on, in the hills between Pourville and Dieppe, the Halle aux Fruits is a grocery store offering quality products: a wide range of fruits and vegetables, as well as cheeses and wines. And a few kilometers further, in the center of Dieppe, the "Olivier" delicatessen is a must for lovers of fine cheeses and wines!

With the flavors of Pourville

Pourville beach

This is the closest grocery store, located in the Pourville beach parking lot, not far from the Régates restaurant. A small, gourmet shop, it was founded and run for many years by Eric, who has just handed the reins over to Noël. The products are of very high quality: fruits and vegetables, fine wines, charcuterie, cheeses, and more. It's ideal if you want to enjoy delicious products and chat with Noël, who will be delighted to welcome you and offer advice. The prices are a bit high, but still reasonable and "normal" considering the quality of the products. Open every day: 9 am - 8 pm.

Coccimarket

Varengeville, center
A small supermarket run by Christelle is located 2-3 km away in the center of Varengeville-sur-Mer, near the town hall. (Opening hours: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM / 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM and Sunday mornings). The selection isn't as extensive as in a supermarket, but it's wide enough to meet your daily needs during a stay at Villa Quartz.

The Fruit Hall

Dieppe, Janval district
Julien Brennetuit, nicknamed "Bidou," is a seasoned professional who prioritizes quality. He chooses his products "with love" and sells them to us "with humor"! La Halle aux Fruits offers one of the widest selections of fruits and vegetables in the Dieppe region: seasonal fruits and vegetables, local or exotic produce, each more tempting than the last, and of impeccable quality. Bidou also offers a range of fine wines, from the simplest to the grand cru, which he selects from the best producers. (Open Mon-Fri 8:30am-12:30pm / 2:30pm-7pm).

Olivier grocery store

Dieppe, center
For those who appreciate fine wines, cheese, and quality products, the "Olivier" delicatessen is a must-visit in Dieppe, on Rue Saint-Jacques. Bénédicte took over the shop founded by her grandfather 50 years ago, who transformed it into a wine cellar and a cheese shop of exceptional quality. The finest Norman products sit alongside the greatest French wines, and its reputation extends far beyond the region! Don't hesitate to indulge in the Camembert with Calvados, one of the house specialties. (Open Mon-Fri 8am-12:30pm / 2pm-7:15pm)

Supermarkets

To find hypermarkets and supermarkets, you can go as far as Dieppe, where you have the choice between the very large Belvédère shopping center, which has grown up around Auchan (5 km), the Leclerc center (8 km), or Intermarché (7 km). As for us, we prefer the Carrefour Market in Offranville (6 km). Almost the same distance from Dieppe, it's a supermarket of manageable size (neither too big nor too small), and you can find everything there, without crowds or jostling, even on Sunday mornings.

The Belvedere (Auchan)

Dieppe (exit towards Rouen)
The Belvédère shopping center is the largest in the Dieppe area. It's located 5 kilometers outside Dieppe, on the road to Rouen. Around the Auchan hypermarket, you'll find major retailers such as Darty, Intersport, Norauto, Buffalo Grill, Bricodépôt, Conforama, La Halle, Armand Thierry, and others. This center is best avoided on Saturdays due to the crowds and parking difficulties!

The Leclerc center

Dieppe, East of Dieppe
The Leclerc center is located east of the city of Dieppe, further away than the Belvédère center (8 km). Unlike Auchan, few other stores have developed around the hypermarket, which is therefore more isolated.

Carrefour Market

Offranville
If you'd like to do your grocery shopping at a supermarket, we recommend the Carrefour Market in Offranville. It's not too far away (5 km), large enough to offer a wide selection of products, but not so large as to be difficult to navigate. Parking is easy. Opening hours: 9 am to 7 pm on weekdays, and until noon on Sunday mornings.

Intermarché

Dieppe, East
Located not far from the Leclerc shopping center, 7 km from Pourville, Intermarché can be a good alternative for supermarket shopping. The fish counter is excellent, as Intermarché has its own fishing fleet based in Boulogne. The scallops sold at Intermarché are caught in Dieppe, and you'll find them at a better price than at fishmongers!

Bakeries, pastry shops

Those with a sweet tooth won't be disappointed, because between Maison Boivin in Varengeville, Tarte Normande in Petit-Appeville, and Pâtisserie Divernet in Dieppe, the choice is divinely vast: brioches, Norman tarts, macarons, Royal Chocolat! Plenty to choose from to satisfy your sweet tooth!

At Adele's

Pourville
This is the closest bakery to Villa Quartz, located on Pourville beach. It's a 5-minute walk away. While not the best in the Dieppe area, its bread and pastries are perfectly acceptable. It's open every day during the summer, but often closed off-season (Tuesday afternoons, Wednesdays, and often during school holidays). Its specialties are the traditional baguette and the savorette. The traditional baguette is recommended as it has more flavor. It's also a brasserie at lunchtime with good value for money and fresh fries!

The Boivin house

Varengeville center
Located near the Town Hall in the heart of Varengeville-sur-Mer, Maison Boivin is renowned, and rightly so, for the quality of its breads and pastries, but also for its famous brioches, a must for Sunday afternoon tea! Don't miss their incomparable strawberry cakes!

Normandy tart

Petit Appeville
This bakery is located 2.5 km from the Villa, a 5-minute drive. As its name suggests, its specialty is the Norman apple tart. And it's true, this apple tart flavored with Calvados is remarkable! But the bread and other pastries are also excellent! Admittedly, it's a little further from Villa Quartz (just 5 minutes for 2.5 km), but many of our guests often prefer the Norman apple tart to its competitors: the bread has more flavor, the pastries are more refined, and the service is always friendly!

Divernet Bakery

Dieppe city center
During your stay, don't miss the must-visit Dieppe pastry shop: DIVERNET, located in the heart of Dieppe, on the pedestrian street. Their cakes and chocolates are extraordinary. Indulge in the macarons, and especially the "Maca-bombecs," made with real candies from our childhood. The "Royal Chocolat" is also irresistible!

Fishmongers, seafood

If you're a fish lover, you're in for a treat! On the beaches of Pourville and Quiberville-sur-Mer (10 km away), fishermen sell their catch every day, weather permitting! Fresh fish guaranteed, and at unbeatable prices. If you're looking for more elaborate products or seafood from further afield, the "A l'Ecaille d'or" fish shop is the best in the Dieppe region, located 3 km from Villa Quartz in the hills above Dieppe: Sébastien cooks seafood wonderfully, and you can take prepared dishes back to your lodge. In Pourville, the oysters from L'Huitrière, refined on-site by the Goubert family, are delicious. A trout lover? The La Source fish farm in Saint-Aubin-sur-Scie offers a whole range of delicious smoked trout to enjoy whole or as rillettes...

The sale at the landing

Quiberville and Pourville

You're by the sea, so make the most of it! You can buy directly from the fishermen, who come to sell their daily catch on Pourville beach (in the oyster farm parking lot at the end of the beach), and on Quiberville-sur-Mer beach (5-6 km away along the coastal road). Their opening hours depend on the tide and the weather. You won't find anyone there during a storm. The selection is limited to the day's catch and therefore varies according to the season: sole, plaice, flounder, whelks, skate, turbot, etc. The prices are very low and unbeatable! Note: the fish is so fresh that it's often necessary to wait a day or two before cooking it... Ask the vendor about the best-before date!

L'Ecaille d'or

Dieppe, Janval
This is *the* quintessential Dieppe fish shop, the best of all, with impeccable seafood, generous seafood platters, superb fish, and elaborate prepared dishes… The pots, always bubbling, release delicious aromas throughout the shop. You'll always be greeted with a smile and in the cheerful spirit of Sébastien, who will be happy to offer you a 10% discount on all your purchases if you mention Villa Quartz.

The Huitrière

Pourville
You'll find delicious oysters at L'Huitrière, at the end of Pourville beach, on the left after the bakery, in the large white building. They are cultivated in oyster beds in Pourville. You can take them home to enjoy in your lodge; just remember to ask them to shuck them for you first. L'Huitrière also offers excellent smoked salmon. From April to September, L'Huitrière also opens a restaurant upstairs with a beautiful sea view. A truly authentic, local atmosphere!

The Source Fish Farm

Saint-Aubin-sur-Scie
If you enjoy smoked trout, we are fortunate to be located very close to one of the best fish farms in France, which even supplies the kitchens of the Élysée Palace: the Pisciculture de la Source (Maison VOUGA), near Offranville. There you will find smoked trout of all sizes, to be enjoyed hot or cold, as well as related products (trout rillettes, etc.). Fishing is also possible in the ponds.

Regular workshops and activities are offered focusing on education, natural production, wild plants, and food processing.

The Barber of Pourville

Hairdresser, Pourville
Exclusively for men: a hairdresser, a boutique, a barber… Jo has opened his salon on the beach, right by the sea. He takes care of your hair, but can also groom your beard, gentlemen, with a badger brush and an old-fashioned razor! Jo also offers unique items that you'll enjoy discovering exclusively in his boutique. The salon is open year-round, and Jo can also come to Villa Quartz, to your lodge, for a haircut or a shave at home.

Augustus' Gardens

Varengeville center
Le Jardin d'Auguste is an "unclassifiable" shop, offering garden furniture, interior decoration, gourmet food and seasonal vegetables from the garden... A great place to discover in the center of Varengeville, with excellent local products.

The clipboard (Tobacco, newspapers)

Varengeville center
The closest newsagent and tobacconist to Villa Quartz is "Presse-Papier" in Varengeville-sur-Mer. Christelle welcomes you to her shop every day except Monday, from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm. It is also open Sunday mornings. Located just before the Auberge du Relais, in the heart of Varengeville.

Garage du Petit Appeville

Petit Appeville

Car trouble? Stay calm! We have our "Super" mechanic who can help you out. His garage is just a stone's throw away in Petit-Appeville (2km from the Villa), and he can come to you if your car won't start! Give him a call from us if you have a mechanical problem; he'll bend over backwards to help you (Tel: 02 32 90 16 89).

Grand Frais

Val Druel

The "Grand Frais" supermarket chain recently opened in Dieppe. This concept, which has proven its success, needs no introduction. Of course, we have many markets with fresh produce in the Dieppe area, but sometimes, it's tempting to indulge in "Grand Frais," especially when local options are scarcer in winter.

The markets

The markets of Dieppe

Dieppe, (Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday morning)
Voted the most beautiful market in France in 2020, the Dieppe market, held on Saturday mornings (8 am-1 pm), is a must-see for all lovers of fresh, local produce, whether from the land or the sea. It occupies the entire city center and is well worth the trip, even though parking is extremely limited! We recommend parking on the beach or on the Château esplanade. Two other, much smaller markets are also held in the center of Dieppe, on the Place Nationale, every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

The Luneray market

Luneray, (Sunday morning)
Every Sunday morning, the Luneray market takes place, just a short 15-minute drive from Pourville. It's the fifth largest in the department. Around fifty vendors, most of whom are small local producers, are on hand. You'll find high-quality local products: organic vegetables from Auzou (including fantastic local tomatoes with amazing flavor!), mushrooms from Varengeville, homemade jams and brioches, and much more. Like the Dieppe market, it's a must-visit for food lovers.

The small farmers' market

from Ste-Marguerite-sur-Mer (Saturday morning)
Since 2015, a farmers' market has been held every Saturday morning (8am / 1pm) in the parking lot of the Salle du Point de Rencontre in Ste Marguerite sur Mer.Only fresh, local products sold by the producers: Farm eggs and chickens, mushrooms from Varengeville, small goat cheeses, fruits and vegetables, organic fruit juices, homemade tarts, accras and other treats...A joyful and friendly atmosphere where everyone gathers in the "Au Petit Café" cabin or outside, around the tables at aperitif time!

The Offranville market

Offranville (Friday afternoon)
The Offranville market takes place every Friday afternoon, from 1:30 pm to 6 pm, in the central Place Jean Dasnias. It is a considerably smaller market than those in Dieppe or Luneray, but the selection is sufficient, with quality products sold by small local producers.
